Big-Eyed Toad Bugs (Gelastocoris oculatus) (Suborder Heteroptera, Family Gelastocoridae) are bugs of muddy shorelines along streams, rivers, and lakes throughout North America. Big-Eyed Toad Bugs are recognized by their oval body; sandy appearance, and their big, bulging eyes. Adults have wings, nymphs do not.
In North American, there are 2 species of Toad Bugs. Toad Bugs feed on tiny insects and other small organisms; they are entirely harmless to humans.
